Principal's Message

Dear Independence High School Families,

I'm reaching out to share news that will affect our school community deeply. After careful review of enrollment trends, facility needs, and our commitment to fiscal responsibility, the Fulton County School District has made the difficult decision to close Independence High School at the end of the 2025–2026 school year. I know this news brings uncertainty and emotion, and I want to be transparent and honest with you every step of the way.

Why the Decision Was Made

Over the past several years, our enrollment has declined, and district leadership determined that consolidating our programs will help us use school buildings and resources more effectively. This allows us to put more funding directly toward classroom instruction, student support services, and facilities that serve all students in our district. This decision reflects our responsibility to manage resources wisely while maintaining educational excellence.

What Happens Now

Independence High School will operate fully through the final day of the 2025–2026 school year. All programs, classes, and activities will continue normally. Our staff remains committed to supporting every student's success and graduation.

Honoring Our Legacy

For 35 years, Independence High School has been the heart of our community. I am deeply grateful for the dedicated teachers and staff who have shaped thousands of lives, the families who have trusted us with their children, and the countless traditions and achievements that define this school. That spirit—and those values—will live on through the students, families, and staff who carry Independence forward.

Moving Forward Together

We are committed to supporting each of you through this transition. We will provide clear communication, answer your questions, and work together to ensure a seamless move to your home school. Your partnership matters, and we're here to help every step of the way. Thank you for the trust you've placed in Independence High School and the Fulton County School District. That trust is precious to us, and we will honor it by supporting your family with excellence.

With gratitude and respect,

Tabatha Taylor, Ed.S.
