The FAFSA form can be filled out using the myStudentAid mobile app or by visiting fafsa.gov. Every family with a college-bound senior is required to complete this form, which colleges use to assess eligibility for financial aid and scholarships. Please note that the submission deadline varies based on the institution to which you are applying.

Overview:

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the primary application used to seek federal or state financial aid for college education. Completing and submitting the FAFSA is both free and straightforward, granting you access to the largest source of financial aid available.

Financial aid can help cover costs such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation, and other college-related expenses. The FAFSA is essential for determining eligibility for:

  • Federal Student Aid – including Pell Grants and student loans.
  • State Financial Aid – such as HOPE Scholarship and Grant programs.
  • Institutional Financial Aid – including scholarships offered by colleges.
  • Private Financial Aid – which consists of scholarships from businesses or organizations.

You can file your FAFSA using any of the following methods:

  • Log in at fafsa.gov to apply online.
  • Use the myStudentAid mobile app, available on the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  • Complete a paper application (please note that you must print and mail the FAFSA PDF for processing).
  • Request a printed copy of the FAFSA PDF by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 334-523-2691 (TTY for the deaf or hard of hearing: 1-800-730-8913); fill out the form and mail it in for processing.
